Emily Wells is a proud Kamilaroi producer and playwright currently working with YIRRAMBOI Festival. Emily is passionate about using performance to drive social change, and supporting artists to thrive in the creative process. As a Playwright, Emily’s debut play Face to Face was nominated for The Lord Mayor’s Award for Best New Australian Work as part of the Matilda Awards following its premiere as part of Playlab Theatre’s 2022 Season. Emily was selected for Playlab Theatre’s year-long script development programs Alpha Processing and the inaugural Sparks program, delivered in partnership with QPAC and Moogahlin Performing Arts. 

As a Producer, Emily has produced small to large scale performances, gatherings and creative developments with First Nations creatives across Australia. Most recently was the 2023 YIRRAMBOI Festival, which presented over 300 First Nations artists, across 170 shows in over 40 venues across Melbourne. Since being awarded the Emerging Female Arts Leader at the Matilda Awards 2020, Emily has worked with leading playwrights, choreographers and directors on mainstage productions through to young First Nations artists creating multi-art form works in response to state museum collections. Alongside a fierce team at BlakDance, Emily collaborated with local and international artists and organisations, and led the world premiere of Karul Projects’ SILENCE, the first First Nations contemporary dance work to be commissioned by Brisbane Festival.

Emily has worked closely with leading First Nations independents and companies such as Karul Projects, Digi Youth Arts and Isaac Drandic, and has worked closely with and for ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, La Boite Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre, Brisbane Festival, and Walt Disney World.
