Fuel is focused on providing First Nations artists tailored opportunities for the development of their craft and refinement of their artistic instincts.
Whether it’s one-on-one dramaturgy, open workshops or mentorships, Fuel is ideal for any First Nations artist looking to advance their careers through creative and professional development, and network building opportunities in a supported, encouraging environment.

Fuel comprises of three streams: Directing, Dramaturgy and Workshops.
Stream 1 – Directing
Grounded in mentorship and observation, mentees are invited to join the rehearsal room of one of Playlab Theatre’s productions, gaining inside access to the rehearsal and production process, learning the skills of directing from some of Meanjin’s best creatives.
Stream 2 – Dramaturgy
Continuing the creative development of new work, mentee’s will engage in one-on-one dramaturgy with mentor Kathryn Marquet to develop their plays-in-progress.
Stream 3 – Workshops
Targeting the development of specific skills, providing networking opportunities and masterclasses from some of Meanjin’s most talented creatives, Fuels’ workshops provide participants with the opportunity to upskill in an array of areas.
Q. Can I participate if I am not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander?
A. No. This program is specifically for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community members.
Q. What if I don’t have any prior experience? Can I still participate?
A. Absolutely! As long as you are available to attend all in-person sessions you are more than welcome to apply.
Q. Will there be cultural support in the program?
A. Yes! The ‘Fuel’ program is supported by QPAC First Nations Team, and Playlab Theatre’s Aunty-In-Residence: Aunty Roxanne McDonald.
Q. Will I be remunerated for my time?
A. Yes! This development program is funded by Playlab Theatre and QPAC, and you will receive a stipend, divided across three payments to participate in the program. However, if you are unable to complete the program or cannot attend all of the program events, the payments may be reduced or cancelled.

A. This program will be held in Brisbane.
Q. Can I apply if I am not from Brisbane?
A. To be eligible participants must be able to attend the program in-person. However, if you are interested in participating in this program, and cannot attend in person or only partially in person, please reach out to us at info@playlabtheatre.com.au to discuss.
