Christine Comans is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Creative Industries Faculty, Queensland University of Technology. She has had a long history of leadership and teaching at QUT at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and until recently was QUT’s Head of Drama. Her special interest is Brisbane theatre history and in particular the history of La Boite Theatre, nurtured through her long association as an actor in the 1970s and 1980s, Board member in the early 1990s, and dedicated audience member. Christine has published articles on the Company, it was the subject of her doctoral thesis, and now its distinctive history dating back to 1925 has been published by Playlab Press (2009). A recent review in the Australasian Drama Studies Journal described La Boite: The Story of an Australian Theatre Company as an important book, eminently readable, thoroughly researched, wonderfully illustrated with a generous selection of photographs, and a redress to the complacent view of Australian theatre history which has seen Brisbane as ‘a poor relation to the cultural powerhouses of the southern states'(April 2011 pp 253-255). Christine looks forward to continuing research and publishing on Brisbane’s theatre history.
