Kate Walder

Kate is a theatre-maker, director, performer and the Founder/Artistic Director of Steps & Holes Theatre Company Ltd. Since graduating from the WAAPA Music Theatre BA and Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris, she has focused almost exclusively on the creation of new work. As co-creator/ performer; Trestle (Legs on the Wall), Le Vide (Steps & Holes – Winner Sydney Fringe Best in Design, Best in Physical Theatre nominee), The Raft Development (Legs on the Wall), Le Voyage (Steps & Holes – Winner Sydney Fringe Critics Choice, Inner West Council Artist Development Awards), Roomba Nation (Hurrah Hurrah), Satellite (Steps & Holes/Old 505), The Story of the Little Gentleman (Ricca Festival, Japan), BAD (The Old Fitz, Adelaide Fringe), La Dispute (Soho Theatre London, Edinburgh Fringe) and multiple creative developments Australia wide. As Director; I’ve Been Meaning to Ask You (Rehearsal Director; The Good Room/ATYP/ Critical Stages/Parramatta Riverside) The Addams Family, Alice (Kambala), The Void: Sydney University 2019 Revue (Seymour Centre), The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Marion St). As Choreographer; The Addams Family, Into the Woods (Kambala). As Assistant Director, ATYP’s award winning production of Spring Awakening. As Writer; Soul Trading, ATYP Junior Foundation Commission winner. Kate is currently in development for 21 Forster St, the next work from Steps & Holes which premieres at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre in 2022. Kate has also worked extensively as a tutor for organisations such as NIDA, ATYP, NORPA, The Arts Unit, Artology Pty Ltd, State Drama Festival, Chopt Logic, Sydney Theatre School and Monkey Baa.
