Laurie Trott

Laurie Trott is a Mission Beach-based playwright, prize-winning poet, writer and editor with a special interest in tourism and the environment, and is an accredited Rainforest Tour Guide.

While raised in Far North Queensland, Laurie has lived and worked as a rural and metropolitan journalist and editor in Australia’s distant corners. She was awarded first-class Honours in Film and Screen Arts at Curtin University in Perth for a feature film script set in the WA Pilbara that explored cross-cultural story telling. Her short film scripts include The Buck Stops Here and The Lazarus Girl. Her one-act plays performed by Malanda Theatre Company include Me and My Shadow and The Dying Game.

She was a co-founder of Rainforest Media Services and Mission Beach Community Arts Centre (Mission Arts), a partner in a hydroponic lettuce and herb farm at Mission Beach and writing workshop community facilitator with Contact Inc and Art Recovery Corps following Cyclone Yasi.
