Sven Swenson
Dubbed ‘The Bard of Brisbane’ by fellow playwright Michael Gow, Sven Swenson is acclaimed for works within his interconnected series, The Sundial Plays, including Vertigo & the Virginia (Queensland Theatre Company, 1999), In Lieu of Flowers (Queensland Theatre Company, 2001), Road to the She-Devil’s Salon, inaugural winner of the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award and a Matilda Award for writing (Queensland Theatre Company, 2003), Heavenly Bodies, Beautiful Souls (Metro Arts 2006, The Beckett Theatre, New York, The Hudson Theatre, Los Angeles, 2007). The Truth About Kookaburras (Metro Arts Independents, 2009) earned him a Matilda Award was reshaped and remounted with La Boite Indie in June 2012. The Bitterling (La Boite Indie, 2010) was shortlisted for the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award and won a Matilda Award for Best New Australian Play. Sven juggles being a theatre-maker with his role as a single dad and fulltime carer for his son who has multiple disabilities.
