TOPIC 9: JAPANESE TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY THEATRE

The following list of plays has been curated by Playlab Theatre staff in order to provide an extended list of plays suitable for study in Topic 9: Japanese Traditional and Contemporary Theatre. In order to assist educators and students further explore the unique express of the Japanese Theatrical aesthetic we recommend the following titles as they employ traditional Japanese theatrical practices in a contemporary context. The plays in this list provide unique examples of how the performance styles, conventions and techniques of traditional Japanese theatre can be used to covey ideas and make meanings for contemporary and international audiences.
