TERM 1 2020 DRAMA CURRICULUM WORKSHOP SERIES
This workshop series is designed for Drama and English Educators teaching Drama units in Queensland Middle and Senior Schools. Each workshop will focus on a specific genre from the Queensland Drama Syllabus and use dramaturgical strategies to explore the given topic. Workshop participants will receive a free Playlab publication to unpack the conventions of the form, style and structure of the genre in focus, and to deconstruct how the elements of drama are used to create meaning. Educators will learn new ways to engage students in the units and increase student understanding of the different forms.
All workshops are held in Playlab’s Rehearsal Room at 30 Herschel Street, Brisbane City.

This workshop focuses on Horizon by Maxine Mellor (Playlab’s new production, debuting in May) and its connection to Unit 2: Realism, Magic Realism and Gothic Theatre. Playwright and Drama Teacher, Maxine Mellor will present the workshop alongside Playlab’s Artistic Director, Ian Lawson, the Director/Dramaturge of Horizon. Participants will get a copy of the supplied text and a ticket to a preview performance.
