JULY WORKSHOP SESSION 1: THEATRE OF THE ABSURD
New Babylon is a macabre comedy exploring themes of decadence, waste and the logical end points of compulsive consumption under late capitalism.

The Theatre of the Absurd workshop focuses on New Babylon by multi-award-winning playwright, Stephen Carleton and its connection to Unit 3: Theatre of the Absurd (Challenge). Stephen Carleton, Playlab Theatre’s Playwright in Residence, will present the workshop and unpack the conventions of Theatre of the Absurd by delving into his own absurdist work dealing with the climate change crisis.
Participants will get a copy of the supplied text.
TEACHING THE CURRICULUM – AN EDUCATOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP SERIES
Playlab Theatre’s series of Professional Development workshops are back in May and July 2022 with more content and deeper connections to the current Drama curriculum.
Designed to unpack the conventions of form, style and structure, these workshops provide practical strategies and ideas to explore texts, engage students, deconstruct meaning and the manipulation of the elements of drama across different genres.
Delivered over 2 days, each of these 4 workshops will explore a specific unit through an in-depth analysis of a new Australian play. Flexible options are available for the series. Choose to attend the full series, two days, one day or individual workshops.

The Non-Linear workshop focuses on Brutal Utopias by multi-award-winning playwright, Stephen Carleton and its connection to Unit 1: Non-Linear (Share). Stephen Carleton, Playlab Theatre’s Playwright in Residence, will present the workshop and explore the non-linear dramatic form through his new work, Brutal Utopias. Participants will get a copy of the supplied text and a ticket to a preview performance*.

The Teaching First Nations Theatre workshop focuses on Playlab Theatre’s new production, debuting in March, Face to Face by First Nations playwright, Emily Wells and its connection to Unit 3: Theatre for Social Comment (Challenge).
