Description

It’s party-time tonight in the testosterone-drenched change-rooms of AFL underdogs the Gold Coast Kookaburras. They’re celebrating a big win, the booze is free-flowing and a stripper has been booked as a buck’s party surprise for one of the players.

But tainting the air is a bizarre secret held by the entire team. By tomorrow, the secret will be national news, lives will be torn apart and homicide cops will be combing the change-room for clues.

The Truth about Kookaburras was first produced at Metro Arts, 2010 with a subsequent season at La Boite Theatre’s 2012 Indie Season. The Truth about Kookaburras is the first publication in the Playlab Indie Series.

Reviews

"Kookaburras hides many secrets it's best not to reveal but the murder is really a way into exploring a seedy, Fight Club world with themes of mateship, gender politics and what it means to be a modern man."

Courier Mail, June 2012

"Sven Swenson’s complex and thrilling production is gripping to the final heartbeat as it challenges notions of identity, stereotype and what it means to be a man."

Brisbane Times, June 2012

"With The Truth About Kookaburras, writer/director Sven Swenson has delivered a work that could rightly, without any fear of exaggeration, be referred to as a masterpiece."

Australian Stage, June 2012
