YEARS 7-10 DRAMA SCRIPT | OVERVIEW
Flowers in Antarctica by Wendy Mocke is an exuberant and uniquely layered look at environmental issues that reminds us how wrong it is to take what isn’t ours. A bold, imaginative new Australian play for Years 7–10 drama students. With 8 main characters and flexible opportunities for a large ensemble, it’s ideal for classroom performance. The text invites students to explore climate change, colonisation, and collective responsibility through inventive physical and vocal storytelling.
This is a play for the fierce and the curious: for drama students and anyone searching for bold stories that honour who they are and question the world they are entering. Flowers in Antarctica invites you to fall in love with theatre’s wildness and ignites the power to imagine a better world.
SYNOPSIS
A foreign species is vowing to conquer Earth—starting with the sea. Now Whales and Orcas, custodians of these waters, must put aside years of bad blood to face a new threat. As the ocean fights back, old rivalries collide with urgent questions about power, belonging, and who gets to decide what is “theirs”.
PRODUCTION HISTORY
Flowers in Antarctica was commissioned for Queensland Theatre’s ‘The Scene Project’ program in 2024. It was performed by students in schools across Australia.
