YEARS 7-12 DRAMA SCRIPT | OVERVIEW
A gripping climate-future play set in the town of Promise, where water is a life-force and stories become survival. The Flood proposes a threat to our connection to water — and to Country. And then suggests how First Nations knowledge systems might guide a return to balance. In a future shaped by scarcity and fear, a town called Promise clings to what it can: routines, rumours, old rules, old stories. But when the world stops behaving the way it used to, what’s left to hold a community together?
The Flood is a play about collective memory, Country, and the quiet feats of survival that characterise First Nations communities. It is a reminder that radical change can begin simply by stepping beyond the familiar and imagining a future worth fighting for.
SYNOPSIS
A mysterious illness plagues the dusty, dry town of Promise, but 15-year-old Kirra is determined to save her sister from its clutches. Following her gut, she travels to Country she’s only ever heard of, unwillingly paired with the disillusioned Jesse. The two traverse sink-holes, robot birds and violent townsfolk before stumbling on a secret that could change everything.
