We’re seeking donations to open a new residency position and commission a playwright for our 2025 season. Playlab Theatre will match donations, doubling every dollar.

Playlab Theatre pays Playwrights-in-Residence at the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) rate, supporting local playwrights’ professional careers, right here in Brisbane. We are uniquely positioned as a new writing company to support playwrights from idea to realisation.

Playlab Theatre has developed and produced nine new Australian works, including the AWGIE award-winning, Horizon by Maxine Mellor. Since 2019, Playlab Theatre has directly supported 112 playwrights through a combination of training, mentoring, and paid work — as well as publishing over 110+ play scripts from across Australia.

We are fundraising to create another opportunity for a playwright to write a new work for production in 2025. We are aiming to raise $8,400 by July 31st to kick off this new Playwright Residency before the end of 2023.

Playlab Theatre welcomes donations of any size, as every dollar will go towards new Australian Theatre.
